EPL Week 5

Game of the week Watford 0-6 Manchester City

Second time Man City have won by 5+ goals in consecutive games against same team. They have also done it Derby. Only achieved on two other occasions in English league top tier with WBA figuring twice: crushing local rivals, Birmingham, and suffering at the hands of Liverpool

Unfortunately, no video available so you’ll have to settle for this home-made Huddesfield v Leicester game!

Finishing Strongly

One thing Manchester United have improved this season is scoring on the break - particularly when teams press laste for an equalizer. A classic example was this week against Everton with three late goals just after Everton missed a good chance of an equalizer

At the time of writing, they have scored more goals from the 80th minute on than any team, other than thier cross-city rivals, have managed in total

N.B This chart will vary over time

Not sure how long before Crystal Palace join the chart. Their next three games they face the top three in the division

As forecast last week, Crystal Palace became the first team in the top English Division that a team has kicked off a campaign with five goalless, scoreless games - matching Hartlepool (tier 3 1938/9) and Sunderland (tier 2 1985/6). One of Sunderlandès opponents in that run happened to be Crystal Palace

Player on the decline

Deemed unworthy enough for inclusion in the 2016 Cup Final starting line-up, he nevertheless appeared on the pitch for 88% of last season’s EPL action without registering a single goal. The saving grace is that he already leads the league in bookings and so is likely to be forced to miss some game-time soon

He only had one caution on his resume after 70 Premier League appearances to go along with 11 goals. Times have changed

It has been well recorded that Wayne Rooney has reached the 200 goals mark in the Premier League, trailing only Alan Shearer. Lesser known is that he has topped the century mark in cautions with only Gareth Barry in his sights

Super Subs

If you had the feeling a lot of goals were being scored by subs, you were right
Early doors, but we are heading for a record season

Subs for Manchester United only scored 4 times in the first three years of the Premier League. After just five games this year, that figure has been exceeded. Martial(3), Rashford and Fellaini the providers
