For the remainder of the season, I will be travelling with a back up laptop so please excuse any shortfall in posts and site updates
Match of the Day
Bit of a damp squib with Man. Utd. handing City the title but at least the, abot to become, Champions put in a better performance at Wembley to take some of the pain off the Liverpool trouncing in the Champion’s League
Bravo Burnley
Burnley have probably been the biggest surprise of the season and are finishing the campaign in fine style with five wins in row for the first time in the top flight since the 1970’s and certain to finish at their highest level since they were 6th in 1973/4
What they have also provided is the most nail-biters, if you define that as games where there is at most only one goal in it
Here are the standings this year
At the other end of the scale are Manchester City but they do tend to offset the lack of drama with some scintillating play
How have this season’s games as a whole compared with earlier years
So a welcome uptick this season, if you appreciate close games, from the lowest recorded level last year
Allowing for two assists per goal, Cresswell; Shaqiri and Allen all reached the 25 career level in the Monday game between West Ham and Stoke
If it was not for Harry Kane’s phantom goal, he would currently be on a 323 minute drought, his longest of the season
As it is, he still remains five behind Mo Salah for the golden boot. But does account for the highest share of a team’s total goal scoring record?
Here are all the players who account for at least 20% of their team’s goal output
This looks one that will go down to the wire. At the time of writing, the 34 year old Murray is leading and would be in a more comfortable position (as would Brighton) if he had not missed two penalties
In 2002/3, James Beattie scored 23 goals for Southampton - 53.5% of the team’s tally
