Wild boars amongst us One of the great virtues of R Notebooks is the ease of collaboration and Tuija Sonkkila recently kindly made hers on wild boars available As - in a former existence - I was a pork buyer for a grocery chain, this piqued (almost-pun intended) my interest. So I just hit the code > Download Rmd button, and opened the resulting notebook file in RStudio to play with.

CRAN packages I mentioned in an earlier post that I like to keep track of new and updated packages On average, a new package is provided to CRAN every 5 hours and updates are even more numerous CRAN provides an availablity table and there is also the informative CRANberries site plus twitter announcements but it is still hard to keep track of all the new developments

Bookdown bookdown is an R package using RMarkdown making it relatively easy to createa book available in multiple outputs. It is extensively documented in the book, bookdown: Authoring Books and Technical Documents with R Markdown To quote its author, Yihui Xie,

It should be technically easy to write a book, visually pleasant to view the book, fun to interact with the book, convenient to navigate through the book, straightforward for readers to contribute or leave feedback to the book author(s), and more importantly, authors should not always be distracted by typesetting details.

UK 2015 Election I like to check out new and enhanced R packages, particularly those relating to socio-economic issues and sports A recent new entry is hansard, which pulls data from the UK Parliament API Other required packages, which I will make extensive use of in future code extracts, are tidyverse, for data preparation and processing, and plotly, for a wide set of interactive graphics

It’s been a while… … since I had a blog up and running However, RStudio’s Yihui Xie continues to extend R Markdown into new areas and his latest package, blogdown, integrates well with Hugo, a static website engine to display code easily. The product is in beta and I’m just learning it so expect some glitches R markdown can be displayed in many different formats so this is a natural extension to work I do on notebooks, flexdashboards and books.
